Overview
Kargil is popular for its picturesque valleys, Mountains and small towns. It is the second largest district town in Ladakh region of Jammu & Kashmir. It is about 204 kilometer from Srinagar and about 60 kilometer from Drass. It is located on the banks of the Suru River along with an average elevation of 2,676 meters, which is one of the most beautiful town of Jammu & Kashmir.
We are pleased to offer the package ‘Exploring Kargil and Drass' , which will give you the chance to explore the Ladakh along with its monasteries, passes and idyllic countryside. It is 08 nights and 09 days long itinerary, covers Leh, Mulbekh, Drass,Kargil War Memorial - Pangong Lake - Khardongla pass.
Itinerary
Day 1: Delhi - Leh
Arrive at the Delhi airport and board flight for Leh. Upon reaching Leh, meet our representative, get transferred to the hotel. This beautiful place located on the very high altitude, hence if you arrived Leh by air from plans then you need some time to acclimatizing to the lower oxygen level at these heights before attempting anything strenuous. Dinner and overnight stay in the hotel.
Day 2: Leh (sightseeing)
Post breakfast in the morning, embark on a full day sightseeing tour of Leh which include Shey monastery, famous for A 12 meter high copper statue of Gautam Buddha which is gold plated and covers three stories in the building is the main attraction of this Palace.
Later, proceed to Thiksey, one of the largest monasteries in Ladakh. Last but not the least, you’ll have to visit Hemis Monastery, Tibetan monastery is the one of the biggest in Ladakh which is located approximately 45 kilometers from Ladakh. The existence of this monastery was before 11th century but it was rebuilt 1672. The honour of Lord Padmasambhava. Return to the hotel at late evening. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel.
Day 3: Leh - Mulbekh Sightseeing
Today after early morning breakfast procced to Mulbekh, the town is situated at the distance of 190 kilometers away from Leh, located on Leh-Srinagar highway. En route visit the Magnetic Hill , It is the one of the most famous attraction of the Leh & Ladakh region. Gravity hill has strong magnetic properties and cars are automatically pulled downhill and Alchi Murals known to be 1000 years old, Alachi is not really a gompa but a seat of learning Later, visit the lunar landscapes nearby Lamayuru. By evening, arrive in Mublekh, check in at the Camp. After fresh up, proceed to visit the large rock-cut statue of Maitreya Buddha in Mublekh. Later, return back to the hotel for night stay.
Day 4: Mulbekh - Drass - Kargil
After Early breakfast, drive to Drass via Kargil. It is a town in the Kargil District, which often called 'The Gateway to Ladakh', located at the height of 10990 feet. On reaching Drass, you will be taken to visit Drass War Memorial, It was built to honor all the officers and soldiers who died in the 1999 Kargil war, it is situated about 61 kilometer at Drass in Kargil district. Followed by a photo shoot of the famous Tiger Hill. After having lunch at Drass, return back to Kargil for overnight stay.
Day 5: Kargil - Likir
Post breakfast, proceed to Likir, which is around 180 kilometers away from Kargil. On route, visit the scenic hamlet of Likir, the gelugpa monastery and meet with the local people. Stay overnight at the Lukhil hotel.
Day 6: Leh
After breakfast in the morning, drive back to Leh. Upon arrival in Leh, check in to the hotel, Rest day is free at leisure or you can go out for a shopping around the small local markets of Leh where you can buy the authentic items of Ladakh. Overnight in Leh.
Day 7 : Leh - Pangong Lake Sightseeing
After breakfast,proceed for full day tour of Pangong Lake, which is located at the distance of around 135 kilometers away from Leh. On the way, you will pass through Durbuk and Tangtse villages in the Changthang region. Pangong Lake is the largest lake in Asia which changes its color 4 to 5 times in a day. Later, return back to the hotel for overnight stay.
Day 8: Leh - Khardungla Pass - Leh(Excursion Tour)
Post breakfast proceed for Khardung La. This is kwon as the world’s highest motor able pass located at an altitude of 5602 meters above sea level. This pass is situated 40 kilometers from Leh and it was established in 1976 and opened for motor vehicles in 1988. It is also a strategic point for Indian military, as it servers a link to Siachen glacier. The foreign tourists need special permit to visit this place. Later enjoy the shopping, buy some local items of Ladakh. Overnight at hotel.
Day 9: Leh - Departure
In morning after breakfast, transfer to the Leh Airport to board your connecting flight for the onward journey with Sweet and Happy Memories
